This is a great referral program as it is targeted to give the referees a free trial of the service. Uber does not offer a completely free first ride to avoid abuse and use on long, expensive trips. Instead, they offer a reasonable per location amount in free credits to give an opportunity for the first time users to try Uber free of charge. 


Program rules

Uber Referral Program is not only a simple referral scheme, it contains a wealth of referral campaigns with various rewards targeted at different countries or even cities. Usually, Uber Referral Program is giving a varied amount of referral reward for referrers and referees, that depends on the city and changes with time but is usually around $10-$30 for each side and enough to cover one free ride (this is how it is usually advertised).

Best Practices

  • You should set up a limit of once per customer, if you want to offer just the first ride free of charge (so the leftover credits, if any, will not be available for use for the second ride). 
  • The referral reward should have an expiration date for both, referrers and referees.
